This painting was created to give the feel of those days when the world outside is groggy, damp and the light seems to be ever fading behind a solid wall of low hanging clouds. On days like these there is nothing better than to settle into a comfortable spot and enjoy the inner warmth of ones home. That homey feeling during drab weather was the concept behind this painting. During the winter months, the models often use cozy robes to keep warm during breaks. The model wore this red robe one day and Hettinger was inspired to paint her slouched and dozing off or thinking deep thoughts behind heavy eyes, as it is nice to do when one has some personal space.
