A simple landscape to begin with, this painting evolved into a a beautifully wooded scene of goats grazing in the Spring. Hettinger decided to make the addition of the livestock after recalling a sixty-two year old memory of he and his brother being reprimanded for bringing cans to feed his neighbor's goats. Mrs.O'Malley told them, "Goats don't eat cans!". She sold eggs, goat cheese and goats milk.
